Chapter Seven
Was he going to stand by and leave her to her fate?
There was an overpowering smell of incense, so strong it made Maggie’s eyes water and her senses dull. She felt drowsy, disorientated.
Don’t drink or eat anything!
The words went round and round inside her head as she tried to resist the hands that pulled her from the clearing in the wood to somewhere else. A place where the world was warm, fuzzy, lit with a red light. A beautiful woman offered a goblet to her lips—the fruity smell of hot berries hit her nose as the moisture kissed her mouth.
Don’t drink or eat anything!
Maggie pushed the goblet away. The intoxicating smell of spiced wine tickled her nostrils as it wafted past.
“No,” she managed to say.
The beautiful woman didn’t seem to mind. She put the fairy vessel down and started to rub ointment onto Maggie’s skin instead, starting with her arm where she had been so roughly grabbed earlier.
As the smoothing of the ointment over her skin continued, Maggie felt a lightheaded sensation steal over her. She started to feel exhilarated, empowered, and light as a feather. As if she could dance, dance on air, dance the night away, perform to an audience, all night, longer. The incense tickled her nose as the maidens in the fairy bower loosened her hair from its rats’ tails and combed out its short length. They exclaimed at its beauty, the despised locks being combed, plaited and woven with tiny leaves.
The woodland glade had at its centre a huge fire, the furnace being fed by a mighty set of bellows worked by the sprite-like fire fairies, their hair the colour of orange embers sparking as they buzzed around keeping the strange fairy celebrations warm. One landed on Maggie’s shoulder and made her jump with surprise and pain.
“Ow!” she cried, shocked out of her dreamy state by the fairy brand. She was instantly surrounded by sympathetic clucking maidens who partly unhooked her uncomfortable sequined bodice and smoothed it down to her waist so that they could apply their magical salve to Maggie’s affected shoulder, before moving on to her arms and breasts.
The beautiful woman worked her way along Maggie’s forearms and fingers before sliding on, upwards, to encompass Maggie’s breasts and nipples, which she squeezed with obvious relish.
Maggie gave a gasp of surprise but the fairy smiled. “You are almost ready, Mortal Mistress.”
